While BAENUE reimagines lighting through scientific precision, Philadelphia designer Benjamin Gillespie approaches innovation from a more intimate perspective. His studio, Ovuud, demonstrates that even the most overlooked household objects can become opportunities for exceptional craftsmanship. The Reactor nightlight transforms an everyday necessity into a carefully considered design object, proving that thoughtful design does not always require grand gestures.

Built entirely by hand using locally sourced wood, Reactor reflects Gillespie’s unique combination of engineering knowledge, woodworking expertise, and architectural thinking. Hidden LEDs illuminate carefully shaped wooden forms, allowing the material itself to glow with remarkable warmth. The latest color series expands this experience by pairing a practical warm white task light with independently controlled colored mood lighting, giving users subtle ways to shape the atmosphere of a room.

Rather than chasing dramatic effects, Reactor embraces restraint. Different color options create distinct emotional tones without feeling theatrical, while the combination of wood and plexiglass softens the light into something organic and inviting. If BAENUE focuses on biology and Ovuud celebrates emotional comfort, Vietnamese design brand BằNG explores something altogether more poetic. Dreamy Lớp, the newest addition to the award-winning Lớp lighting collection, transforms an atmospheric phenomenon into a sculptural object that feels almost suspended between art and functionality. Rather than merely illuminating a room, it creates an ever-changing visual experience.

Designed by co-founder and creative director Thomas Bình-Minh Vincent, Dreamy Lớp builds upon the collection’s signature concept of a glowing sphere floating within layered forms. This latest version introduces dichroic acrylic, a material that shifts color depending on viewing angle and surrounding light. Combined with translucent acrylic layers, polished spacers, and a matte opal glass sphere, the result is a lamp that constantly evolves throughout the day, revealing cool blues, warm golds, and subtle greens with every change in perspective.

The inspiration comes from cloud iridescence, one of nature’s most fleeting displays of color. Instead of attempting a literal recreation, Vincent translates the optical principles behind the phenomenon into a refined lighting object. The restraint is what makes the design so compelling.
