“If you truly love nature you will find beauty everywhere”, Vincent Van Gogh could not be more right. Creative minds often seek inspiration in nature – luckily for us that inspirations manifest itself in so many diverse and mesmerising ways.

Turmoil, by Kate MccGwire

‘I gather, collate, re-use, layer, peel, burn, reveal, locate, question, duplicate, play and photograph’, is how Kate MccGwire describes her extraordinary approach to art.

Evacuate, by Kate MccGwire

Kate is a famous British sculptor and artist, whose connection with nature and fascination with birds, nurtured from an early age, are easily tracked in avian subjects and materials recurring in her artwork. Her works ranging from installations, sculptures, wall mounted pieces and drawings captivate your attention instantly. Her entangled and somewhat mystical creations produce the impression of wildlife itself being frozen for an instant, though preparing to commence its movement.

This truly fantastic and in its own way magical arrangement of feathers “probes the beauty inherent in duality, employing natural materials to explore the play of opposites at an aesthetic, intellectual and visceral level”.

Also inspired by nature, art objects by Derek Hugger could not be created without sawdust. His ingenuity and craftsmanship did not only enable the artist to create a wooden sculpture of a colibri but also animate it with a kinetic construction which makes the colibri hover and fly.

This visual sequence would not be so life-like unless the artist meticulously studied all 3D animations of a colibri’s movements which were ultimately utilized to make the colibri beat the wings and flare the tail.
