Every year, Californian deserts get lightened up by the most talented artistic crowd which brings an unbridled joy to the Coachella music and art festival. This year has been no exception thanks to so many designers and their installations, bursting with colours and creating an exceptional atmosphere.

Colossal Cacti installation by Office Kovacs

Los Angeles based artistic studio Office Kovacs imbued the deserts with vibrant cactuses which seem to derive its forms from the Tetris blocks. Colossal Cacti installation consists of 7 objects with 4 cactuses made of wood, and 3 steel-made artificial plants with each having road reflectors to resemble cactus spikes.

Sarbalé Ke by Francis Kéré

Berlin-based architect Francis Kéré shared his vision of celebration by bringing these baobab trees to Coachella. The architect who originally comes from Burkina Faso, South Africa, explains that baobab is a symbolic and crucial element of African culture used both for medical purposes and as a gathering place for big celebrations or simple chatting. Kéré’s cartoon-like trees definitely mesmerized the festival goers as they perfectly complement the surrounding landscape.

Mismo by Sofia Enriquez

Sofia Enriquez’s work became a genuine explosion of imagery and a landmark of this year’s festival. With all the iridescent colours, her paisleys appear to be quite at place. The 6 differently sized installations, as the artist assures, suggest the idea of equality in people, as paisleys can be found on a cotton bandana worn by someone doing manual labor as often as on a silk tie worn by someone clad in an expensive business suit.
