Life is a spectrum of beautiful colours. Is there an easier way to reflect this beauty than doodling with coloured felt-tip pens? No matter if you are an artist, designer or just a doodling enthusiast, these innovative pens can be true magic wands that will let you unlock your endless creative possibilities.

Arman Emami, the founder of Berlin-based design agency EMAMIDESIGN, has come up with a way to easily take a selection of your favourite felt-tip pens with you. Aptly named PenFan, the compact, easy-to-carry set of eight flat-head pens looks like something between a Pantone colour swatch book and a Japanese fan.

With a height of only 3 mm per pen, the fan remains as compact as possible and offers a wide range of colors for you to choose from. Each individual sketch pen is detachable too, which allows the user to snap off and on pens to create a palette of their choice.

The pen set is a winner of the Red Dot Design Concept Award for the year 2018.

If a palette of 8 favourite colours is not enough for you, New York City based startup Colorpik Inc has developed a pen that lets you draw over 16 million colours, which literally makes it the only pen you need.

The innovative RBG colour sensor technology allows the user to scan any colour, press the capture button to command over that exact hue, shade and tint, and start creating, either on paper or digital screens. The user can use the colour immediately or save it to the colour palette for later.

But it’s not just colour that the Colorpik Infinite gives you the ability to curate. Texture and dimension of writing can be controlled by your selection of multiple tips, making the Colorpik Infinite capable of beautifully written and multifaceted drawing alike.

The extraordinary pen doesn’t settle for ordinary ink. It utilizes smart ink that is light-fast and water resistant, as well as immune to being weathered away. The product comes with a chargeable battery and re-fillable cartridges, each having over 30 miles of ink.

Developed for tech company Scribit and its famous drawing robot, a pen by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati addresses the issue of plastic pollution produced by the global marker industry. While approximately 35 billion plastic markers end up in landfills annually, adding to the global plastic waste crisis, every component of this fully compostable marker is eco-friendly.

The pen barrel is available in wood, bioplastic, and anodized aluminum. Inside, there is a natural fiber ink cartridge and nib. These internal components are replaceable, so the same barrel can be used indefinitely. The water-based, non-toxic Super Washable Ink is high performance and non-toxic to such an extent that it is certified as edible.

The project aims to help transition the entire art supply industry toward a more environmentally friendly model.
