Fulham FC’s Riverside Stand by Populous

Architecture studio Populous has unveiled renderings of Riverside Stand at the Premier League football club Fulham FC’s Craven Cottage stadium in London that depict a rooftop swimming pool, which will form part of the Sky Deck on its top three floors. The images suggest that the pool will not have views of the pitch, but will instead look out to the Thames.

The design team’s vision for the New Riverside Stand at Craven Cottage was to create a unique experience for fans and guests, whether in the context of football or beyond. As a result, along with stadium seating with a capacity of around 8,000 spectators that will raise the capacity of the stadium to 28,500, the stand will contain restaurants, bars, conference facilities, event spaces, a boutique hotel and a health club.

Central to the barge is a magnificent open-air rooftop pool offering views of the Eiffel Tower. Constructed from wood, steel, and glass, the structure pays homage shipbuilding aesthetics. The suspended pool, resembling the hull of a ketch sailboat, integrates seamlessly with the green trees and white buildings of the right bank, evoking memories of the historic Deligny pool and ethereal Impressionist water scenes.

The design incorporates a Nordic pool concept. The heated pool allows for swimming in various weather conditions, while the efficient heating system keeps lower deck spaces warm. The terrace floor features a running track, providing a dynamic exercise environment with panoramic views.

Water elements are thoughtfully incorporated into the design, with portholes allowing natural light to penetrate the building and reflections from the Seine creating visual effects reminiscent of Impressionist paintings.
