Medium2 Studio has collaborated with Taiwanese design brand Unipapa to address the perennial problem of storing a bulky ironing board. they found an ingenuous solution to camouflage it as a minimalist sophisticated mirror.
Design team including Ping-Lun Chung, Fang-Yu Chen, and Yen-Ting Lin conducted extensive research to develop Flip, an ingenuous dual-function product that combines the functionality of a full-length mirror with that of an ironing board.
The main challenge the team had to tackle was to meet the requirements of an ironing board, which demands a broad span for stability, while minimizing space usage and ensuring adjustable span transition between its two functions with ease
The resulting design boasts sophisticated sleek aesthetic that seamlessly blends into any interior while offering unparalleled functionality and optimizing space usage.
Envisioned by Portugal-based designer João Teixeira, Wave is a multifunctional piece that seamlessly blends a mirror with shelving. The design is modular and comprises around 4-5 parts that can be arranged in multiple layouts, according to the user’s needs or space limitations. However, no matter where its different parts are placed, you still get the S-shaped form of the wave, horizontal or vertical in orientation, just as its name suggests.
What makes the design special is the possibility of placing books, decorations, and other objects in an unobtrusive way keeping the mirror functionality. Both top and bottom sections of the curved shelf can be used as storage units.
The designer believes that the multifunctional piece would fit perfectly near the entrance of any home, offering plenty of convenience and enhancing aesthetics of the space.
Compact mirrors are appreciated by those who would prefer checking themselves on the go, and especially ladies who often keep this item in their handbags. Canada-based industrial design firm Blangk, formerly known as Downstairs Studio, has come up with Mica, a multifunctional compact mirror that doubles as a small power bank.
Integrating useful mobile device with a common lifestyle accessory eliminates the need to carry around yet another thing that doesn’t serve any purpose except in an emergency – in case the user needs to charge their smartphone or other mobile device.
To begin charging, the user has to put down a compatible smartphone on its flat surface on the device’s flat surface. Phones that do not support wireless charging can be recharged using a USB port. However, flipping the charger open reveals two mirrors on both sides, one with 3x magnification and the other with an LED light strip running around it.
The team led by Lenny Ming Lo has taken inspiration from everyday objects, designing the mirror to mimic two flat bowls stacked on top of each other. Besides, designed with sustainability in mind. the product uses 80% recyclable plastic to help reduce its carbon footprint.
