For those who loves coffee, it is not just a beverage. It is a must during the day in the kitchen, home office, or while out in the wilderness. These portable coffee machines redefine the coffee making experience and bring the joy of brewing to any space, ensuring that the perfect cup of coffee is always within reach.
When developing his easy-to-carry capsule-type drip coffee machine Drip Pod Youbi, Japanese designer Koichi Futatsumata started with a reassessment of the internal figurations to find a body size suitable for portability. While capsule-type drip machines are relatively compact compared to conventional espresso or drip machines, they are still somewhat heavy for carrying, requiring a reconsideration of weight balance.
To resolve this issue, he positioned the heater, the most significant factor, at the bottom of the body and adjusted the layout of other functions accordingly. By organizing the size and shape of each element and optimizing them one by one, he achieved a form suitable for portability with a stable weight balance. As a result, the user can carry the machine using a slender incorporated handle, which serves as a visual icon reminiscent of portability.
Positioning the control panel directly below the handle controls surrounding light and enhances the visibility of the LCD screen. Horizontal piping lines are introduced at the junctions of external parts, adjusting the overall visual balance and considering finger placement when opening or closing the lid and removing parts. All this not only enhances the product’s functionality and user experinece but also adds to its visual aesthetics. The overall design incorporates subtle curves within a square shape, integrating each element into a cohesive object.
The addition of a custom app further elevates the user experience, allowing for remote coffee brewing through a smartphone.
Although suitable for the use in any on-the-go scenario, DOTS portable coffee machine by Junseo Oh has been originally designed to be used in a vehicle. It has a minimalist and space gray feel so it can match most car interiors. The machine has a removable bottom so it can adapt to whatever or wherever you may need a coffee break.
Just like Drip Pod Youbi, it utilizes coffee capsules instead of the usual brewing method to make it easier to use. The capsules are placed on the top and replaced by removing that part. Water is stored in the cylindrical space at the bottom. The machine comes with a tumbler with a lid on top to sip your beverage from.
POCO portable capsule coffee machine by Designer Dot and Seunghun Song is as compact and lightweight, it can easily fit into a backpack leaving enough spaces for the required coffee pods. The sleek and modern device looks like a cylindrical loudspeaker and it is similarly rechargeable using an USB-C. You can charge it on the go using a laptop or a portable charger, which makes it the perfect choice for people who are always on the move.
What makes the design remarkable is that it incorporates a built-in thermal insulation function, which keeps water warm, eliminating the need for a separate coffee thermos. This means you can enjoy a cup of hot coffee without the need for electricity. The portable machine also has dual nozzle that dispenses hot coffee directly into your cup – while you adjust the amount of water – making it a convenient and mess-free option for coffee lovers.
