Originating from the Middle Ages, Japanese vases are still recognized across the world for their elegance and subtle sophistication. However, their modern incarnation departs from the ages-old classics fashioned from porcelain to unexpected shapes and materials, marrying form with function in a uniquely elegant way.
Developed by Japan-based design brand Mecli, Flowery Tale vase looks exactly like a book that open up to reveal a 3D vase silhouette made out of the book’s specially-cut pages.
Each book contains three vase designs – or rather cutouts – and can be used upside down, so the user can enjoy a total of six different arrangements. With thick partitions separating them, they can simply open up the book to the desirable vase design.
When opened, the hard-bound book’s spine provides enough negative space to slide a test-tube in where, which makes it possible to use the book as a vase. The test-tube comes with a stopper that allows it to rest on the top of the book without sliding through. To prevent the book from getting wet, the team opted tor water-resistant paper.
According to the team, the vase got its name because it “resembles a fairy tale that tells the story of life with flowers.”
Jewel Vase Mirror Stand by another Japanese studio Soem is a smart dual-functional product that is designed to transcend conventional use and double as an accessory stand.
Built from a durable bioplastic material that contains a large amount of rice husks, the multifaceted product boasts a simple yet elegant design that makes it stand out in any setting.
Because of the mirror, enhancing anything placed in front of it, even the simple act of filling the vase becomes a moment of zen-like peace and relaxation, making everyday mundane activities art-like.
Design studio Moton has conceived a distinctive versatile vase composed of slender copper tubes varying in height for added visual effect. The position of each of the pipes that serve as single bud vases can be adjusted to achieve bespoke floral arrangements.
Copper helps keep water inside the containers clean and odorless, while developing unique patinated look over time. The design is anchored by a solid wooden base, available wither in oak or in walnut, which guarantees stability for the vase even if it is adorned with larger flowers.
The vase’s small size make it ideal for intimate spaces, be it a bedside table or window sill, yet their aesthetic impact is substantial, offering a splash of color and life to any room.
